Some people don't know as they mostly just use computers, so the people who do know need to educate them on these things. Viruses can be programmed into most anything. My husband is a retired systems programmer so he knows a lot about the stuff and has told & taught me some, never any end to what a person can learn about computers as something new is being developed all the time. He is still learning and trying to stay up to date on the stuff. He told me about 1 person who was fired from a company he worked for and before he left he had programmed a virus into their computers which opened 6 months later and shut the computers down. After a lot of damage to their files and computer system and the time & work finding it, the IBM troubleshooters finally found and cleaned it up. It had been named to mimic an IBM program which made it hard to find. Which proves a virus can be named after about anything or implanted into anything to allow it to go through into people's computers.
My 82 year old aunt told me that if people would stay away from computers when they were sick the computers wouldn't get a virus. LOL I still don't think she understood when I told her that a virus is a computer program that people send or upload to destroy a computer, as she didn't understand how computers work having never used one.

Are you sure that the virus was in the photograph (file with extension .tif,
.jpg, .gif, etc.) and not a disguised or camouflaged URL with extension of
.com or .exe ??

Dear SueW:

As amazing as it sounds there are many viruses transmitted through simple
photographs. I remember back a few years ago I tried to delete a photograph
I didn't much care for and hit Enter instead. Whoa Howdy man, my PC picked
up AIDS. I Had to completely erase, delete, double check and finally
reinstall the stuff I had built before I SNAFU'd. It was one of those Life
lessons one does not want to repeat. But back to your query about "Yahoo
Policy" and treatment of its client base goes, I believe it is harsh
ill-treatment just to blow any one off without first 'splain'in what's
involved. So back to the question: Yes, there can be virisius in
photographs. But trusting any ole who these days to be on the up and up is
risky at best and foolish at its worse.
There's not a lot of honesty on the Net. Information gathering is great but
personal inquiries can be danger filled excersices in futility.

Love-Sincerly Yours,
Raven in California

It is also known as "sandboxing" and if this old thing had the operating
memory, I would have been sandboxing years ago. there are a number of good
free programs for sandboxing your computer.
